I've been watching Chef’s Table ever since it first started years ago! While I'm not at all interested in cooking (Yes, I cook every day but it's painfully simple, just a few ingredients.), as an abstract artist I'm very interested in creativity.
Over the years I have watched every episode of Chef’s Table. I’ ve watched some episodes multiple times, some as many as half a dozen times! Right now I'm rewatching all my favorites. It's been years since I've gone back and done such a deep dive. The surprise has been in how I watch these episodes now versus years ago.
What I notice now is a lot of suffering, failure, gut wrenching despair/burn out - but also focus, heroic discipline, perseverance, vision, profound engagement, and, yes, mind blowing creativity.
For the first time these episodes are becoming about a lot more than cooking documentaries! In fact what I am learning from this experience does not relate to cooking at all; it relates to the art of life - the sacrifices of passionately pursuing truth and beauty, going as deeply as possible into the most profound kind of reflection, experiment and self discovery! O the wonder!
