REPURPOSED BOOKS
While 80% of my art work is on canvas, the remaining 20% is quite varied. Repurposing books, that is using markers to create artwork in a fully bound and published book, would be in that 20% category.
Initially I was attracted to wellbound, glossy paged art books. Last year, however, I started getting way into board books, the kind of books toddlers often like. Any book that I use comes from a thrift store.
I look at each book as a miniature portfolio, an engaging snapshot of my work at that time. I generally work on these book projects at night, usually when I’m watching a show, a movie, a documentary - whatever. Far from seeing these projects as trivial or unimportant, I look at this body of work as wildly experimental and intriguing.
